All teenagers have problems, but few of them can match those of Aislinn, who has the power to see faeries. Quite understandably, she wishes that she could share her friends' obliviousness and tries hard to avoid these invisible intruders. But one faery in particular refuses to leave her alone. Keenan the Summer King is convinced beyond all reasoning that Aislinn is the queen he has been seeking for nine centuries. What's a 21st-century girl to do when she's stalked by a suitor nobody else can see? A debut fantasy romance for the ages; superlative summer read.
WICKED LOVELY was my first introduction into faeries and I loved every second of this book. I could not put it down. It is so engaging and best of all we get not just one characters point of view. In WICKED LOVELY, we meet 17 year old Aislinn who can see faeries, but these faeries are very bad. But she must not let the faeries know that she can see them. Rule #1: Don't stare at invisible faeries. Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries. And most important, Rule #3: Don't attract their attention.
Aislinn has made the biggest mistake of all and attracted the attention of one of the most powerful and strikingly beautiful faeries of them all, Keenan. Ashlinn just can't seem to get rid of him. Keenan is the summer king and wants Aislinn as his queen. But Aislinn is in love with Seth. Keenan will not give up and will not stop until Aislinn becomes his queen. What is Aislinn to do.
When I picked up this book, I really did not expect to like it as much as I did. I was very surprised. When I told myself I'll stop at the next chapter so I can go to bed, it never happened. I couldn't stop reading until I reached the very last page and that rarely happens. Melissa Marr has created a fantastic world where readers would love to be apart of. After finishing Wicked Lovely I wanted to search and search for every faerie book I could find. I thank you, Melissa Marr for creating such a great book in the world of faeries.
Aislinn was a weird character for me at first. She seems very tense all of the time, but I would guess so, because all of her life she has been surrounded by faeries and has been a bit scared of them. I think she really steps up as a character and tries to make everyone happy. She is an caring character. We also have Keenan and Seth, the lover interests. I have to say I loved Keenan and I am a huge fan.
I found that Keenan was charming, fun, flirty, and is the kind of guy that I would want. He just makes you smile and is very straight forward. He will do anything to get Aislinn. To me Seth was a bit o a bore so I did not like him really. Seth just seemed more of a friend than a love interest and Keenan brings out the spirit in Ashlinn's soul more. I really do hope that Aislinn ends up with Keenan in the end. Seth was just a boring person in general to me. I did not feel the appeal to the character.
We have one more character worth mentioning, Donia. She is the winter girl. And all winter girls have the task in warning the girls Keenan picks as queen not to tryst Keenan. I really liked Donia. I have grown to love her and she has suffered a great deal from all of the summer queen drama and I hope that she gets her happily ever after when this series is over.
I thought that the book had a great ending and I am really looking forward to the second book in the Wicked Lovely Series. Melissa Marr is a must-read for any young adult fan. WICKED LOVELY is one of those book that you wonder why the hell you haven't picked up this book before, because you have been missing out big time. So, yes. I have spoken. This book is amazing.
