Q: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What's the most unique character name you've come across?
That is a HARD question! I'll probally spend eternity thinking about this question. I know I love when I read a book that characters names are always different I mean, you don't want every book you read have the name Ethan as a name. LOL
But some really unique ones and my favorites would be, Bones, Terrible, Curran (<---always think of the food), Merit, Mencheres, Aren, Magnus & Alec (hehehe), Jericho Z. Barrons (<---I'm madly in love with that name). I'll probaly add more later as I think about them. But I just love that authors spend time and research different characters names and make it something different and unique. ;)

You hit a lot of awesome names, Mariya! I think of food when I hear Curran's name, too. Sounds like Currant. Ha! Ha!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, and Ethan isn't even that great of a name! (No offense to any Ethans reading this) I feel like there are a lot of names recycled in the YA genre, and it's always been one of the things that bothers me about it. Anyway, I'm following you now! Love the blog. Here's the link for mine: Lilly's Follow Friday. See you around :)

Hello My Little Linky Monster:))
ReplyDeleteYou know I love all those names, Bones, Barron's, Curan, Mrncheres...love them all...of course that's why we're friends!!;)
P.s. I was looking into joining RAK next month for the March sign-up..I'm just a bit confused by the concept....Okay so you never emailed me wanting to know my surprise I have for you!!:( I can't discuss it on a comment, but aren't you even curious???? Hehr
LOL oh yes, I'm just seeing how long I can hold out without begging you to tell me. I think this is a record. I'm doing pretty well, but this does not count --->OH, MAN! PLEASE! OH, GOD! GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! TELL ME! OR I'LL TRACK YOU DOWN AND TORTURE YOU FOR HOURS UNTIL YOU TELL ME!!!!
DeleteRAK is pretty simple I've done it for the first couple months since it started but I don't have any books I really want right now that are already out so I stopped for a while. Basically there is a list of people and you look at they're wishlist and you mail the book to them which is being nice, or it can be for bloggers you just want to send a thank you to that you love ;)
I think doing it to get rid of some books I don't want anymore. I probaly wouldn't get a lot if I sold them and plus at least u can give to someone who would enjoy it or want them. One time I have this huge book away. I think there was 12 books in there. It was like shelf cleaning.
That's a great idea actually! I should try it, if it helps me to become acquainted with bloggy stuff! See I don't know why you don't give me all this info....I just happened to see RAK one day!! Lol
DeleteOhhhhhhh I want you to know but, it's a handmade gift, that I still haven't heard back from the maker yet.....I wrote the maker like 2weeks ago, I'll shoot that person another email......I like it when you beg though!!! HAHAHAHA!!!;)
The torture part of your post has me laughing so hard! Lol
DeleteHaha! Everyone loves RAK. I stopped doing it that's probaly why I forgot about it. But you should totally do it. ;)

I love when the name (and the translation) are clues to the character's personality or something that is revealed in the book--if I figure it out early it is like solving a great puzzle!

Terrible - from Stacia Kane's novels? I adored him and thought the name suited him perfectly. Sometimes it just fits. Other times it's lame. Anyway, new follower, here's my Friday hops http://kristyberridge.blogspot.com.au/

My name is from Dickens. I've always thought Fagin was appropriately named. And Mr. Beadle - also from Oliver Twist.

I too love when authors take the time to name their characters. When they have ulterior meanings and aren't just names that are likeable. I hate when they give the off-the-wall names just so their names are odd and "original".
