Q: What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

Oh, my there's quite a list of them! But most definitely Vampire Academy! I would be excited for it and terrified! I mean what if they screwed everything up and I have very high expectations my one of my all time favorite YA Book Series! I mean Dimitri and Adrian have to be PERFECT! Lots of action, stuff in the book and also places and locations! Oh, my!

But really I would want it to be perfect! Another book would be Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi! I loved that book and I already imagine it being a film and all the wonder stuff! And dialogue come to life! I need that one to be perfect as well! I have high expectations for my favorite books!

  2. I agree, Shatter me would be very difficult to translate into a movie just based on the whole writing style.

  3. I haven't read the Vampire Academy or Shatter Me, but I know that they are both so well loved by their readers that the answer makes perfect sense. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I have the feeling we're going to be seeing many mentions of Shatter Me. I definitely agree, though. I'm just not sure how they would pull off all of the nuances that make the book as great as it is. Great answers!

  5. I hope they don't make VA just because with all the vampire shows and high school shows around I don't see how VA could make any new contribution. although I agree the casting would partly make or break it! Old follower!

  7. Vampre Academy was the first book that popped into my mind when I read the question - seriously!! UGH! No way do I want it made into a movie. Adrian and Dimitri? Not possible to cast them.

  8. I think that The Vampire Academy would probably be better off if it were made into a television series, the way that The Vampire Diaries was and aired weekly rather than adapted to film. But, I'd be a little more worried about a film adaptation of Shatter Me, because of the unique writing style and the fact that it might translate well to screen.

Great answer, by the way! :)

  10. Hopping through. I finished Shatter Me a few hours ago. I liked it okay. The writing is by far the best feature and I don't think a movie could get that right.

  12. As I haven't read either of these series, the adaptation would probably be my only encounter with the story so it wouldn't bother me if it didn't live up to the book.

Here's my Friday Hop. Stop by if you get a chance.

  14. You're definitely right about VA - it would be *very* hard to live up to the books.

  15. VA movie/show.. Just not.. No. XD I mean, there is a student-mentor relationship, there are people dying, there are lots of dark scenes. The Alarmed Parents Groups will go crazy and the movies might suck because half of the books needed to be cut.

    1. No offense, but The Hunger Games just came out and a lot of people died on there an there were other movies and it's not like this is a R rated book or anything. I think they are still smart enough to figure it out. VA has more fans than under like 16 or whatever so I think we'll survive if something with the parent go down. I don't feel that it's as complicated as your making it out to be.

It would just be hard to live up to the books b/c of the greatness of it all.

  17. Shatter Me! Yes please! Though I think it would either be a really GREAT movie or suck pond sludge...There wouldn't be much "grey area" with that one.

  19. I said Vampire Academy too! It just makes me nervous that they would turn it into a cheesy Twilight-wannabe. Shatter Me would be difficult as well. How would they convey Juliette's state of mind in the room?
