DO YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER?
OMG. as a graphic designer I can't help but judge a book by the cover sometimes, if the description/reviews are good I add it to might read shelf and may not read it for many many months. Being a graphic Designer, I want every book cover I see very pretty b/c the bad ones I know that they are capable to becoming eye catching so people will want to read them, instead of walking right past them paying them no attention just for the cover.

I admit I have read books with horrifying covers which have become a favorites of mine, so I try not to judge by a cover by really look into the book, especially if it gets high ratings from many readers.

  1. I know! The pretty covers are always eye catching. I know i`m guilty of going to the bookstore with a list of books that i really really want to read. Then....I pass by a book case that is sheltering this book with an amazing cover...& i get the urge to buy it! & sometimes i have to hit myself on the hand & go NO ROMONA! bad girl!. Then yeah :(

  3. I understand that as a graphic designer you probably see the potential. I can't ignore an author's hard work based on the cover alone. I feel bad.

  4. Well that's totally understandable! As a graphic designer covers would be pretty important to you or play a part in deciding to read the book or not! Covers can affect me that way too. Both good and bad!

    Here's my Friday Hops

  5. Hi Mariya! New follower here. Would love for you to follow me. Nice to meet you.

For me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
    Happy Follow Friday!!!

  6. As a design student you totally have a right to judge covers!! It's so tough - with limited time and resources something has to make me pick up a book in the first place and it's almost always a pretty cover.

  8. I second that! As a photographer, I pay a lot of attention to details and everything about the covers. I love pretty covers and it's also easier for me to get my non-readers friends to pick up a book if it's eye-catching.:))

    Have a nice weekend!

  9. I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.

I expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog - http://www.howardsherman.net

    Thank God it's Follow Friday!?
