Review: Archangel's Blade by Nalini Singh

Title:  Archangel's Blade
Author:  Nalini Singh
Series:  Guild Hunter, #4
Publisher:  Berkley
Release Date:  September 6, 2011
Pages:  310
Rating:

The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past...but Dmitri's need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo.

Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel's right hand, and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality...the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her.

As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting...and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more...

Archangel's Blade was even better than the previous books in the Guild Hunter Series and I may possibly love Dimitri and Honor more than I love Elena and Rapheal which I didn't think possible. Nalini Singh has done a wonderful job with this story and I was surprised to have really liked it.

“I’ve never met an angel like Illium.” Regardless of his stunning appearance, he had seemed more “human” than any other immortal she had ever met. A hard glance. “Flirt with him if you want, Honor, but you’re mine.”

I am sure there has been hundreds of reviews out by now of the plot of the story so I will not go too much into it, but the hero and heroine of the story, Dimitri and Honor were both tortured and have had a bad past and them finding each other was the best possible thing ever. I really loved this couple. Dimitri is really hot! I mean seriously we have a few sexy scenes that I swear I must have read them multiple times. By the time the book is finished, scratch that, in a few chapters in you will be obsessed with Dimitri!

“Honor?” “Yes.” “I’m going to do things to you now that a good girl definitely shouldn’t let a man do to her.”

Why then did I not give this book more than three stars? Even though I loved the storyline and the characters in this book, I would have to say after I read the first Guild Hunter book the others have become quite slow reads and it was the same with Archangel's Blade. There are books that are fast-paced, yes?

I would call these books slow-paced since it really takes me forever to get the book read. I mean seriously? Three-hundred and ten pages normally takes me three days. I've had to be reading this book more than a week. I loved it, but something huge is missing here, not just in this book, but in all the books in the Guild Hunter Series. Anyway, if you are a PNR fan or have loved or read the pervious book in the Guild Hunter Series then you are going to love
Archangel's Blade. It's impossible not to.

“I can’t be anyone’s slave, Dmitri. Not ever.” “That won’t be a problem.” Then, because this was Honor, who knew him as no other did on this earth, he said, “You’ll only ever serve me.” “Arrogant man.”

  2. Fab review, I know what you mean it does seem a slower paced series, I think it is because it doesn't seem to have a central story line, it is all about Elena and Rapheal and their relationship and now about the Seven without a big story line tying it all together if you see what I mean.

  3. Great review! And thank you for reminding me I need to get back to this series! I just started it a few months ago, but for some reason I've never continued it. I definitely need to. With her Psi-Changeling series too!

  4. Awesome review. I know what you mean about it being slow-paced. I don't mind that IF I expect it going into the book and I generally try to read these when I'm in the mood for that. Sometimes it's nice to take a step back and read something not so fast paced. Although, normally I do really prefer more fast paced.
