Review: Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

Title:  Bone Crossed
Author:  Patricia Briggs
Series:  Mercedes Thompson, #4
Publisher:  Ace
Release Date:  February 5, 2009
Pages:  304
Rating:  ★★★★★

By day, Mercy is a car mechanic in the sprawling Tri-Cities of Eastern Washington. By night, she explores her preternatural side. As a shapeshifter with some unique talents, Mercy has often found herself having to maintain a tenuous harmony between the human and the not so human. This time she may get more than she bargained for.

Marsilia, the local Vampire Queen, has learned that Mercy crossed her by slaying a member of her clan—and she's out for blood. But since Mercy is protected from direct reprisal by the werewolf pack (and her close relationship with its sexy Alpha), it won't be Mercy's blood Marsilia is after.

It'll be her friends'.

After three books of frusteration finally I have seen the light. I declare Bone Crossed the best book in the Mercy Thompson series to date.

As soon as I picked up Bone Crossed I couldn’t stop. I loved following all of these characters especially Mercy. After the heartbreaking events at the end of Iron Kissed I cried along with Mercy and enjoyed watching her recover and being able to conquer everything in Bone Crossed. Mercy is a heroine that amazes me with every book.

I am finally able to why everyone adores this series so much. It took me four books to see it, but I am finally there. And YES! We Finally, and I say again finally get some Adam and Mercy moments. I mean actually real moments that last more than a few pages. And Mercy and Adam are beautiful together. If I had a husband he would have to be like Adam. He would be everything I would want in one.

I loved the werewolves and vampires drama like always. I am so happy to like Bone Crossed this much that I have to jump up and down and run like a maniac and get Silver Borne.

Review: Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs

Title:  Iron Kissed
Author:  Patricia Briggs
Series:  Mercedes Thompson, #3
Publisher:  Ace
Release Date:  January 2, 2008
Pages:  287
Rating:  ★★★★★

The lighter moments of Mercedes Thompson's days are spent tinkering with VWs. When she's not workings, this attractive, shape-shifting auto mechanic is busy fighting wrongdoers and attempting to sort out her somewhat messy love life. In this, the third Mercy Thompson novel, Ms. Fix-It must work overtime to save her former boss and mentor from a homicide charge.

I have now discovered that fae in the Mercy Thompson Series is my least favorite supernatural creatures.

I have to admit if I were to compare Iron Kissed to Moon Called and Blood Bound I would have to say that the first two books in the Mercedes Thompson Series were the greatest books of the series for me.

The problem I had with Iron Kissed was basically that the fae are just too boring. The vampires in Blood Bound were 10X more exciting than the fae. The only thing I was excited about in this book was to hurry up and make it to the last page. I think I’ll stick with the vampires.

One thing I liked it we finally get a little bit more romance between Adam and Mercy. Yah! My favorite subject, the romance. I think that the romance between Adam and Mercy is blossoming beautifully and I just can’t help but be anxious whenever we get a scene between Adam and Mercy. I feel we both got this I want you vibe between the two of them and they don’t care who knows it.

Mercy finally choose between Adam and Sam. It’s about time! And it wasn’t really a big surprise about who she choose. It was kind of obvious who she would pick.

A tragic event happens to Mercy in this book that is very real and you really feel for Mercy. After the events, I really find that part of the book beautifully written and it just proves to you how much Adam loves Mercy. The last maybe 30-20 pages,(I don’t really know how many pages it was) broke me heart to a point where it was so utterly beautifully written to a point of tears.

So of course the ending ended on a cliffhanger that drove me crazy so I had to read the next book. And I heard that the next book Bone Crossed is one of the best in the series, so I have hope Bone Crossed might be the one where I cross over and be a devoted Mercedes Thompson Fan.

Even though I gave this one a lower rating most people love this series, I am in the minority, but from the ending I am really starting to love this series. I mean Mercy is a heroine you will want to follow. And come on, she has my middle name, how cool is that?

The second book was about the same as the first book for me. It was a little scary though in some parts. The Mercedes Thompson is so different to me because this is like the only urban fantasy series that I have read that we don't get a lot of the romance. I wish we got a little bit more of it, but at least we can see the romance blossoming somewhat.

The plot is so enthralling though. It keeps me excited. Mercy Thompson is a wonderful heroine to follow and I enjoy her quite a bit. SO we have the two love interests, Sam and Adam. I don't really like Sam that much, so I hope so doesn't choose him. We see through this one a little bit just how much, big and bad Alpha, Adam cares about Mercy.

And I wish I could make this review longer, sorry. But overall this book was okay just like the first one and I am only pushing to read more because I heard the series gets better.

Review: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

Title:  Moon Called
Author:  Patricia Briggs
Series:  Mercedes Thompson, #1
Publisher:  Ace
Release Date:  January 31, 2006
Pages:  292
Rating:  ★★★★★

Werewolves can be dangerous if you get in their way, but they'll leave you alone if you are careful. They are very good at hiding their natures from the human population, but I'm not human. I know them when I meet them, and they know me, too. Mercy Thompson's sexy next-door neighbor is a werewolf. She's tinkering with a VW bus at her mechanic shop that happens to belong to a vampire. But then, Mercy Thompson is not exactly normal herself ... and her connection to the world of things that go bump in the night is about to get her into a whole lot of trouble.

Mercy Thompson is a walker, a coyote. Her father died before she gave birth and her mother made the decision to allow the Marrock, alpha of the werewolves to raise her daughter, because let's ace it how can a human woman raise a wild coyote? Mercy ends up being raised by werewolves. But she doesn't really belong. She left when she 16 years old to have her own life, away from the werewolves but just keeps getting pulled into the world of the werewolves.

Mercy is now a mechanic and lives next door to an alpha werewolf, Adam who also has a daughter, Jesse. One night Mercy witnesses an attack on a bot who she employs at her work and calls Adam for help because he would know how to better deal with this situation because the boy is a werewolf. Then the next morning Adam has been attacked and is seriously injured and Jesse is missing. Mercy has to save Adam, find Jesse, and re-visit her past again.

Mercy is a strong, capable woman. She just wants to have a normal life with her job but she always gets pulled into the werewolves world. But she is caring will not take crap from nobody. At first I was very surprised that Mercy was not a werewolf, I just expected that she was, but it was a great twist in the story. Adam is described as very scary at first, real tough and brings an aura like you should be afraid of him. But he is caring and has a soft heart underneath all of that toughness. I think he is a wonderful love interest for Mercy.

We also have Samuel, who is Mercy's first love. I really did not connect to him that he should be a love interest for Mercy as well. Sam seemed more like a best, guy friend. I found him kind of distrustful when it comes to Mercy's love life. We have Stefan, the vampire, who just pops in and out of Mercy's life occasionally. I think he is a fun character and look forward to more of him. We also have the werewolf, Ben, who I am not sure if I trust the guy yet. He is a bit of a mystery and I have no idea what he is up to. I think he has this bad past we don't know about yet.

I liked the book but some parts in the book I felt were not necessarily, and some parts in the book dragged on and I am not sure about the storyline yet. I am thinking what will happen in book 2 then? It was good but had some minor flaws within the book. It was enjoyable though. And I look forward to see what the second book will be like.
