Review: Reaver by Larissa Ione

Title: Reaver
Author: Larissa Ione
Series: Lords of the Deliverance, #5
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Release Date: December 17, 2013

WARRIOR OF HEAVEN

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before...to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

ANGEL OF HELL

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood...

REAVER by Larissa Ione was quite the ride. I have to say that it didn't wow me, like many of Ione's other books have. I think the problem remained to be that I wasn't all that invested in Reaver's story. Mainly he wasn't a character I had wanted to really read about front and center and he still felt like one of the side characters. I don't really know how to explain it.

I felt the whole storyline was interesting though. I liked finding out about Reaver and Harvester's past, who they were and how that all affects them today. But I think their personalities are all out of wack though comparing the past and present Harvester and Reaver. And unfortunately, my feelings towards Harvester did not change in this book. I understand that she sacrificed so much for Reaver and his children, but I just didn't warm up to her. I guess once you leave an impression that impression sticks.

I did really enjoy seeing old characters again, like our Demonica gang! And the ending was really good. REAVER by Larissa Ione ended up being good, but just not great. And I am so happy there will be more Demonica books! I definitely am looking forward to the next! I love Ione's paranormal romance books!

Review: Gentlemen Prefer Succubi by Jill Myles

Title:  Gentlemen Prefer Succubi
Author:  Jill Myles
Series:  Succubus Diaries, #1
Publisher:  Pocket
Release Date:  December 12, 2009

Who Knew An Angel Could Get A Girl In So Much Devilish Trouble?

Jackie Brighton woke up in a Dumpster this morning, and her day has only gotten weirder. Her familiar B-cups have somehow become double Ds, her sex drive is insatiable, and apparently she had her first one-night stand ever...with a fallen angel. All she remembers is gorgeous Noah's oddly hypnotic blue eyes...and then a dark stranger whose bite transformed her into an immortal siren with a sexy itch. With help from Noah, Jackie begins to adapt to her new lifestyle — until she accidentally sends Noah into the deadly clutches of the vampire queen and lands herself in a fierce battle for an ancient halo with the queen's wickedly hot righthand man. Who just happens to be the vampire who originally bit her. How's a girl supposed to save the world when the enemy's so hard to resist?

Reading  Gentlemen Prefer Succubi  reminded me how I absolutely love humorous paranormal romance books.  Gentlemen Prefer Succubi  was very romantic, funny and just a real fun read.

Geeky Jackie our heroine of the story gets turned into a succubus without her consent and she is trying to still live a normal live without changing anything, except for one problem...Her whole appearance has changed. She is even more sexier than before and all the men are noticing and want a piece of her. I liked Jackie. She is very normal and geeky and there were times I thought she was really dumb, but she is still adjusting to becoming a succubus and I think she's doing a great job adjusting.

Then Zane leaned in and kissed my mouth. “I won’t make you do anything you don’t want to do, Jackie. Ever. Remember that.”

There are two men in Jackie's life. Noah and Zane. Noah is the sexy angel, though I don't quite think he is as hot as Zane. He is okay compared to the drop dead gorgeous vampire, Zane. I felt that Zane really cared about Jackie a lot and would do anything for her. Who doesn't love a naughty little bad boy who also has this sweet and kind side to him. It makes us fan girls swoon!

I guess now all Jackie has to do is make a decision though her decision kind of through me. But hey! A girl has to look out for her needs, right? It will be quite interesting to see how things with the guys turn out.  Gentlemen Prefer Succubi  was quite a fun and exciting read and I look forward to the next book.

Review: Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Hush Hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Series: Hush Hush , #1
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Release Date: October 13, 2009

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

From what turned from months to weeks to days I have been staring at this book every time I go into the bookstore, just staring at the lovely cover and I finally broke down and bought it. I couldn't resist. I have heard many mixed reviews on HUSH HUSH hoping to hell that I would like it and guess what I did enjoy it immensely and I am in love with all things angels.

Fallen angels is a wonderful topic to write about for Fitzpatrick and I am so glad that she did. After finishing HUSH HUSH I hunted down every angel book book I could find in the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre. I am addicted. There is just something about fallen angels that attracts me to them, but then again it may just be Patch.

I really enjoyed the concept of fallen angels that Fitzpatrick has come up with. This book was a real page turner and also a bit scary for me at some certain parts. I like the part where Patch is the ultimate bad boy who has a mission of his own. TARGET: NORA GREY. And also where he ends up falling in love with her.

Patch is so cocky and dangerous and I just love that in a character. If you know me you know just how much I love it when a man has that dangerous and mysterious feel about him. There is still so much we don't know about Patch and I hope we get more about his past in the next book and also about Nora, she is also a bit of mystery, and when I say mystery I say her heritage.

I love the relationship between Patch and Nora and I am really interested in where it will go from here. Nora has been having trouble accepting her feelings for Patch and Patch is just beginning to see that he is actually falling for this girl. I am so interested by this relationship. Patch is the ultimate bad boy and the scenes when Nora and Patch are spending time together are too funny. Patch seems to always have something to say that makes me laugh.

"You smell good, too,” said Patch It’s called a shower.” I was staring straight ahead. When he didn’t answer, I turned sideways. “Soap. Shampoo. Hot water.” Naked. I know the drill."

I loved this book. Exciting plot, intriguing characters, beautiful romance. This story is much darker than I am used to but I loved the dark aspect of it. I feel HUSH HUSH is a book every young adult paranormal romance fan should check out, because I really think they would enjoy it. I am curious to see where Fitzpatrick goes with this story and what will happen next in the next book, Crescendo.

Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed…

Archangel's Consort should be on you must-buy list immediately. Why? Angels, Vampires, and one Sexy Archangel that will blow your breath away. The Guild Hunter Series is a must-have for any Paranormal Romance reader.

Rapheal and Elena are recovering from the battle in Archangel's Kiss and are more and more in love with each other than ever. And there is the fact that coming back home and Elena being out in the open now, that people know that Elena is indeed alive, but she is an angel now and people will not stop staring at her. Elena is determined to fit in and still be about of the Guild. She is not going to let becoming an angel change anything.

I found that
Archangel's Consort was full of Elena and Raphel, and I loved getting to know them all over again. I feel like each book brings about a piece of information that we do not yet know about these lovely characters. One thing I loved was getting more of Rapheal and knowing more about him. A little about his mother and others in his life. I love how strong-willed Elena is. Even though is is weak at just becoming an angel she doesn't let that push her down. She is very determined to become stronger so she can hold her own. The relationship between Rapheal and Elena is just so sweet in this book that you can tell that they both NEED each other.

"I live Elena." Quiet words, his arms holding her close. "because of you."

We had some new characters that are worth mentioning. Rapheal's mother and also Illium's mother. It was nice to meet both of them and I find that these two characters both have they beauty of their son's in a way. I am very interested to see what will happen next in the Guild Hunter Universe. There is so much to explore with all of these characters. If you liked the first two books in the Guild Hunter series, you will most definitely enjoy this one. Great storyline, Hot men, Bad-ass Heroine and if you want your seductive dark hair and blue-eyed Archangel? You got him!

Review: Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

Title: Angelfire

Release Date: February 15, 2011
Pages: 453
Rating:

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

So what I have been seeing from young adult authors are quite a bit of vampire and werewolf book series, but it is nice that it is going beyond that into angels and demons. I have got to say that I need something new. I have read a couple of angel and demons young adult book this past year including Becca Flitzpatrick's Hush Hush and Kate Lauren's Fallen, but nothing compares to Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton. I was blown away. Whens the next book coming out? I am already ready to see what happens next.

So this is what we have....a kick-butt heroine and a hot and mysterious hero who I want all to myself. Oh, and if you want action, you got it! Angelfire tells the story of 17 year old Ellie who is a seemingly normal teenage girl except for the fact that she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the Preliator, able to destroy evil reapers with angelfire. Will, her guardian is there is defend and protect her. Ellie is coming to remember her powers and her past and the reapers may have found a way to destroy Ellie for good, no more reincarnation. And so the story begins.

I loved every single moment in this book and found that I was unable to put it down. We have an amazing storyline and intriguing characters. I really liked Ellie. I really like that nowadays authors are impressing me with they young heroines. Ellie is a normal teenager and she is thrown into this world that she doesn't immediately understand. And with Will guiding her along t he way she becomes stronger, not just physically, but also emotionally. I think that she has become quite a woman by the end of the book and I really like Ellie as a character.

So, who could not love Will? If you don't I'll take him right off your hands if you don't mind..I loved this guy. From the moment we met Will in Angelfire, he has always been so mysterious and I don't know anything about this guy, but would like to know all I can. And even after the end of the book, I still have more questions, I want to know more about this intriguing character. I think there are so many ways to describe Will. He is funny, moody, sarcastic, serious, determined and grumpy at times and I love him.

The action was amazing and there was lots of it. And a couple of chapter you just cannot put this book, you have to keep reading and reading and reading until you get to the end. I loved the struggles the characters went through, because it shows how the characters can make it through them and how stronger a person it makes them. I loved Moulton's writing and enjoyed it. The romance in this book was amazing, I felt like I haven't enjoyed a young adult paranormal romance book in so long and Moulton nailed it spot on. I enjoyed the side characters just as much as the main characters, and there is this one character I need to know more about, Cadan. I don't know why, but I feel like there is more to him that meets the eye. He is another character that I need to know more about.

This was one of best young adult books that I have ever read about angels and demons, well actually I have to say it is the best. I enjoyed it too much and now Moulton has me obsessing over this series. Debut author, Courtney Allison Moulton will blow you away with Angelfire with two more books in this trilogy that will make you wish that they were already out on the shelves.

Review: Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh

Title: Archangel's Kiss
Author: Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter, #2
Publisher: Berkley
Release Date: February 2, 2010
Pages: 323
Rating:

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux wakes from a year-long coma to find herself changed—an angel with wings the colors of midnight and dawn—but her fragile body needs time to heal before she can take flight. Her lover, the stunningly dangerous archangel Raphael, is used to being in control—even when it comes to the woman he considers his own. But Elena has never done well with authority…

They’ve barely begun to understand each other when Raphael receives an invitation to a ball from the archangel Lijuan. To refuse would be a sign of fatal weakness, so Raphael must ready Elena for the flight to Beijing—and to the nightmare that awaits them there. Ancient and without conscience, Lijuan holds a power that lies with the dead. And she has organized the most perfect and most vicious of welcomes for Elena…

I really wanted to like this book and going into it I thought I would. I didnt hate the book, but it was so hard to get through. The first book, Angel's Blood was so much better and I just expected the sequel to be better because in most series that's the case but this book was such a huge disappointment.

ARCHANGEL'S KISS picks up about a years after the events in Angel's Blood. After the huge, epic battle with Uram, Elena and Rapheal both came so close to dying. But Elena has been in a coma and she wakes up as a immortal. Rapheal wouldn't let her die, EVER! But instead as a vampire she wakes up as an angel. Not only is she an angel, she is the first angel ever to be made.

Fact: Angels are usually born. It is very rare for one to be made. She is Rapheal's weakness at this moment and she is recovering, so a big weakness and a target so Elena needs to heal quickly and get her strength back. Rapheal's seven do not approve of Elena due to the fact that she is a huge weakness to Rapheal.

"They didn't understand that she held his heart, held it so utterly that there was nothing he wouldn't do, no line he wouldn;t cross to keep her safe"

I may have not liked ARCHANGEL'S KISS that much because of the healing process with Elena and that is what she spent almost the whole book doing. I think a main reason I really liked the first book was because I found Elena always out battling and doing what she does, hunt. And also the sexual tension with Rapheal and I liked we still got that in this book. I found that I was forcing myself just to finish the book and parts were just so boring. I think the next book, Archangel's Consort will either make it or break it for me.

Now that Elena is mostly healed and will be back as herself I think that the next book will be better for me. And looking at the description of Archangel's Consort I feel like I will definitely like what will be in store for Rapheal and Elena and hope to discover how strong they are together. My advice is if you liked Angel's Blood yes, push through this one. Most people find that book 1 is their favorite but still liked the second book. Looking forward to Archangel's Consort coming January 2011.

Review: Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh

Title: Angel's Blood
Author: Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter, #1
Publisher: Berkley
Release Date: March 3, 2009
Pages: 339
Rating:

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she's the best—but she doesn't know if she's good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option...even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…

“How long have you been with Raphael?”“You ask a lot of questions for a dead woman.” “What can I say? I prefer to die well-informed.”

This book was great. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I've always been looking for fallen angel books and the only ones I've read were young adult books and I was so glad to find an adult urban fantasy/paranormal romance one about angels. The only thing I didn't like was that during the point of view reversals, Rapheal and Elena's point of view, I really got confused, because it kind of switched immediately into the other's point of view, where I thought I was inside Elena's head but actually in Rapheal's.

I love Rapheal, dark hair and blue eyes, oh, I love those combinations, they are hot. I mean Rapheal seems really mysterious and dangerous and its like how can you resist such a man. I love Elena and Rapheal's scenes together, all their moments where the sexual tension was building up. I'm really interested on what will happen in the next book. I like the next book's cover way better than this one. Excited. I felt like this is one of the books I should've read before now but its hard to tell the ones that do that by the cover. haha. But this had everything I love, romance, action, adventure...

"I guess a dying woman can be stupid if she wants. I'm crazy about you, Archangel. You scare the shit out of me at times, but I want to dance with you anyway."

I loved how the characters were developed, favorite vampire in guild hunters Dmitri! Gotta love him. and I feel like this was kinda a different approach like how the archangels think lowly of humans and all and how you turn a vampire! That was very different in here. The ending was very satisfying. I plan to check out more of Nalini Singh's books. If u want a great read here it is!

If you liked the first two books in the Guild Hunter series, you will most definitely enjoy this one. Great storyline, Hot men, Bad-ass Heroine and if you want your seductive dark hair and blue-eyed Archangel? You got him!
